restarting malibu after running out of gas
My best friends kid just ran her 2002 Chevy Malibu out of gas and after putting gas in, it won't start. The pump is running and they did get gas to come out of the fuel rod. I know there isn't a reset button but is there some way to reset it with the key. The kid did this several months ago and a friend was able to start it by doing something with the key and putting it in the on position. Any ideas?

I bet you that the car did not run out of gas in the first place. My 2001 Malibu did the same thing. my wife drove to the store, shopped for 1 hour, then could not start the car. The engine would crank but would not start. We had car towed to dealer. Dealer cut new keys and relearned key code while key stayed in ign switch for 10 minutes. There are instructions in the Malibu shop factory manual on how existing keys can be reprogrammed.
