Default 1996 Lumina Transmission Troubles

Wife called me middle of the afternoon , last Friday . Her Lumina had quit on her .

Well , the engine started fine , tranny no go ! :-(

I towed it home & checked the tranny fluid , expecting it to be low . Supp rise , It was way high on the dip stick . I am wondering is this is the possible cause of the tranny quitting or a result of it quitting ?

Park is the only gear selection that seems to do anything .

Any ideas or suggestions ? I realize the worst case senerio is a re-built tranny .

I have a feeling that may cost more than the entire car is worth ?

Thanks , :-)
God bless
