Default Fuel problem?

Have an '01 lumina, 83k miles. Sometimes it starts fine, other times it will start, then die. Usually after that, if you turn the key to "on" position, wait for fuel pump to stop, then start it, all is well.
Could this be a bad fuel pump?

sounds like it may need a throttle body clean. if the throttle plate is carboned up, it will start then stall as airflow past the plate is restricted by the build up.
