1998 S10 2.2 Has Spark but will not run
Hello,
I have a 1998 S10 that has plenty of spark, plenty of compression, but it wont even attempt to run. (Even with starting fluid) Just cranks and cranks.

Yea, I had that same problem until last week! Couldnt figure out what the cause. Someone said it was the timing! nope! and 5 other things. I found out that the fuel pump was weak so it wasnt keeping enough gas going to the motor to pull hills and keep it running, and also after putting a new fuel pump in it wouldn't start! so i got the starter checked out and it was bad too! I changed that and now its running like a new truck! hope that helps you out some! good luck!

OK here is what I do not understand. The truck doesn't even attempt to start even if you spray starter fluid into the intake. Shouldnt it run for at least a few seconds on the starting fluid?

Well if it's straight carb! yes It should at least turn over and give u like 2 or 3 secs but that's all. Electronic still wont give u anything, but a constant turning over. Check the fuel pump to see if it sounds strong when you turn the key!,You should here it humm all 5 or 6 times. Also make sure that u don't have a blockage in the fuel line from the actual fuel filter itself. Take the connect off from the side of the filter nearest to the back to see if it it spitting gas to see if its even pushing towards the motor. You may already have known this info already! but just another thought.

Thad,
thanks for the info. I am pretty certain that the fuel pump is bad. I have replaced the relay and also the fuse but i still do not hear the pump at all when i turn the ignition on. I was just trying to figure why the truck didnt even try to start with starting fluid sprayed into the intake. Thanks again, we will replace the fuel pump and hopefully that will do the trick.
Thanks again
