Default 2002 Chevy Blazer Shifter Problem

I have a 2002 Blazer with a floor shifter (automatic transmission). Occasionally, when I park the truck (either on flat surface or slight incline) and shift to PARK, the key will not turn off completely and I can't pull the key out confused confused confused. I then have to turn the key back on or re-start the truck, shift down to Drive or Low and slam the shifter into Park. Sometimes I have to repeat this 5 to 7 times until the key turns completely off and I can pull the key out. Is the problem in the shifter cable in the console or is it in the switch located in the steering column. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

you have to replace the steering column, because I myself had a 1991 blazer and when i put it in Park my key wouldnt come out and i had to do it at least 3 time from Park to any other gear and slam it back into Park hard enough to where i can get the key out. got the steering column replaced that day. $120 later, might be a little bit more for you cuz you have a newer version with the extras. I now own a 2000 4x4 blazer
