Yes you can.But usually a 4wd drive will have a 3.42 or better in it.A 3.08 is usually a bigger gear that normally gets better gas mileage..Or AKA a highway gear. 3.42 gear cranks up the R.P.M.`S at highway speeds.3.08 decreases the rpm`s at highway speeds. The higher the number..The faster your motor spins on take off`s and highway driving.

Unhappy matched differentals

You would have to change both differentials in a 4 wheel drive or they would be fighting each other when 4 wheel was engaged. The front differential is usually about 1 point faster then the rear to give steering control. example: 83 S-10 4/4 front diff is 411:1 while the rear diff ratio is 410:1. So make sure the ratio for your S-10 matches the ratio in your S-10 Blazer before you switch
