Default 1999 s10 4.3 speedometer and odometer not working

I just bought a 1999 s10 from a friend, and the speedometer and odometer do not work. All other dash gages work properly along with the cruise control. The odometer shows the numbers but they don't change as I drive. Any ideas what the cause of the speedometer and odometer to not work? My truck is a 5 speed manual, amd the shift light works properly as well. Thanks for your help.

Probably a bad vehicle speed sensor or a problem with the wiring to the sensor. It is mounted on the transmission tail piece on the drivers side.
