Default Changed Steering Column

I'm new to this forum but glad I found it. This pertains to a friend of mine who has a 2002 Chevy Blazer. He recently replaced the steering column and now it won't start. Will he have to relearn the key if it has a chip in the key?
The keys that came with the steering column he replaced appear to be the type that has a chip in it but not 100% sure. We're thinking this is a security issue. Money is tight so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If you changed the column and the wireing harness fits that doesnt really mean it all adds up. Some of the harnesses dont include the same things.....
