Default Fuel Pump Fuse '98 Blazer

Hey guys going to throw another question at ya's.

1998 Blazer 4.3L 4 door 4x4 18gal tank.

MY fuel pump is not working that is confirmed. Before I pull out the pump and put a newone in I am going to confirm it IS getting power. I was reading some other threads and people were saying to check the relay (block has power and swapped it with another so that is working) and to check the fuse.

Does the 98 blazer even have a fuel pump fuse and if so where is it because I cant find it with the rest under the hood or in the panel inside.

Thanks guys

Mike

I am not sure on the fuse location but when fuel pumps go out they usually just go dead, I have a feeling it might be the pump.

Good luck, and hopefully its just a mystery fuse, but I doubt it.

I don't remember how the circuit is protected right now.But I can tell you a simple check or two to help you.So your not just hanging parts.Have a friend cycle the key to on then to off for you while. You touch the relay with your fingers to see if it powers up.You might even be able to hear it.Depending on back round noise.Their should be power to the front two legs of the relay the ones to the front of the truck. If you wanted to check with a volt meter or test light with relay removed.Best for last is a good quality scan tool can do a fuel pump power or on run test with out the truck running.

The power for the fuel pump relay comes off the ECM B 20amp fuse.

See attached schematic ... fuel pump power does come from ECM B 20 amp ... and is routed to fuel pump through fuel pump relay which appears to be powered when ignition switch is in RUN (& Start) position.

I have 04 S-10 with 4.3 and can hear the pump cycle when the key is turned to RUN.

Default This may help

I pulled the 20 amp fuse. It was fine. I pulled the Gray "relay switch" marked fuel pump. Cleaned the terminals, stuck it back in, gave it a few taps. Here's where it gets goofy. I laid on the ground and pounded on the bottom of the fuel tank a few times. Turned the key and I heard my pump motor! I cycled it 3 times and boom. The blazer came to life!

All that electric testing can be solved real quick with a shot of starting fluid. If it fires your electric is good. Sort of. The problem is in the fuel pump or power to the fuel pump. Total cost? $3.79 tax included for a can of starting fluid. Had I done the fuse dance and pounded on the tank a few times? $0.00
