Default Inline fuel pump for 89 S10-2.8L

I have a 1989 S10 pickup,2.8L. Iwould like to install an inline electric fuel pump while leaving the ailing factory in tank fuel pump installed. Does anyone know if this will work? When cold cranking the engine it turns over too long before cranking. Thanks for any replies. Have a nice day.

It is easier to drop the gas tank (preferably with very little gas-to empty) and replace the pump in the tank then it would be to run the wiring, and finding a safe location to mount it on chassis. Besides the fact who knows if it would work properly? Who knows if the old one in the tank would cause pressure issues. Could be a lot of work to simply have to start all over again the OEM factory way.
