Default Oil filter adapter lines 99 blazer

I am replacing the lines that run from the oil filter to the engine block. I got the bolts out but cannot remove the old line. The rear fitting is too large to fit between the engine and the axle. I have seen one recommendation to cut the rubber section of the lines and that would work, but I am worried about getting the new line in there. There has to be a trick to this. Please help!

I don't mean to sound stupid but can you not just lower the axle or raise the engine a bit?

Thanks,
We did jack up the engine. Just needed jacked up a hair to get enough clearance so we did not have to unbolt the mount.
