S10 4.3 oil pan gasket info needed.
Hi, I've been trying to find a DIY or some other info regarding the gasket replacement. I don't know how difficult it is. Do you guys have any useful links or a .pdf shop manual?

I'm pretty sure that all you have to do is drain the oil, loosen all the pan bolts and drop the pan. Clean the pan, scrape off the old gasket and put the new one back on. Bolt the pan back in place and refill with oil and replace the oil filter.

Yes, it that simple...
Note: Run engine for 3 minutes to warm the oil if truck is stored outside or in unheated garage. This is not needed if air temp is about 70 degrees.
Note:You can find your engine oil type on the either the Oil Fill tube cap, or the engine sticker posted inside the engine bay. Also you can refer to the owners manual.
Note: Your Oil Filter should be a Factory or OEM specific replacement. I.E. if your oil filter has a check valve inside you, need to replace it with a like filter. Not doing so could lead to engine damage.
1. Jack truck up on 2 Ton jack stands, placed at on each side of the truck at next to the jack point on the frame rail.
2. position oil catching drain pan under oil pan drain.
3. remove drain plug.
4. after all fluid is drained, reinstall drain plug only finger tight.
5. Remove oil filter can with oil can wrench or band strap wrench
6. Remove oil pan retaining bolts from edge of oil pan. 12 to 16 total depending on make and year.
7. Remove oil gasket from pan and lower engine with a PLASTIC PUTTY KNIFE. DO NOT USE A RAZOR BLADE. If you score or nic the gasket mating surface you can cause the pain to leak. You may use a green scouring pad to remove buildup.
8. Clean oil pan, using Starting fluid, WD40, or other solvent of these types.
I normally do this outside and once i have cleaned it out, I flame the inside with a torch to ensure all residue is gone.
9. Replace the gasket with like style gasket. Felt for Felt, Cork for Cork.
10. reinstall the pan to the engine, being careful of the new gasket. Tighten the bolts in a criss cross pattern in 3 steps.
Step 1 Finger tight or just till you can not turn it any more
Step 2. To half the needed torque spec per manufacture
Step 3. To full Torgue spec per manufacture
This ensure that you have a good solid seal of the gasket material to the pan and engine without causing pinching or bluging of the gasket. (no leaks)
11. Tighten the oil pan drain to manufactures torque specs
12. Replace oil filter with required model.
Prime the new filter with oil. by filling it up and letting it sit aside while you do this work. Also make sure to oil the seal gasket with a little oil to prevent tearing or sticking while installing the oil filter.
13. Fill engine with oil 3 to 5 quarts depending on engine size.
14 Run engine for while inspecting gasket for leaks
If no leaks are found. shut engine off. Lower the truck, and take it for a test drive around the block. when home again check for leaks one more time to be sure.
Should take about 3 hours total for first timer.
Tools needed.
1. Oil Filter Wrench or Oil Filter Band Wrench
2. Socket set 3/8 or 1/4 drive will be fine.
3. 3 to 5 quarts of oil
4. replacement Oil Filter
5. replacement Oil Pan Gasket (Felpro or Mr. Gasket)
6. Oil capture pan
7. Shop rags
8. Plastic putty knife.
9. 2x 2 ton capacity Jack stands
10. 1 Jack
