Default S10 4,3L runs well in reverse not in drive or neutral

My distributor and/or rotor failed while driving.
Replaced them, and car still wouldn´t run.
So a friend told me to replace the spark plugs.
I did, and the car runs now on idle and in reverse.
If I try to throttle in neutral or in drive it revs up to about 1000rpm and starts to stumble when engine is at normal temp.
When cold I could rev it in neutral too.

Before the distributor failed car ran great.

Anyone got any ideas what the problem is.
Before I replaced the plugs I read engine fault codes and there were none.

Check the timing. Are you sure the distributor was replaced to the correct timing?

Well. I really do think I did mount them good.
I will check with timing strobe tomorrow.
And I will check youtube on how to do that.
Oh do you mean the ignition wires?
They should be right since I could easily cet the car in very nice acceleration in reverse.

I meant more like the distributor being off one tooth. The wires could also be a problems but less likely.

That makes the wires more likely to be part of the problem.

Well the wires beeing crossed dont explain why the engine works fine in reverse
Can I have damaged something towing it 10km.
Read about that after the towing?
I didn´t disconnect the driveshafts.

its resolved.
The ignitioncable from coil to Distributor rubbed against firewall and grounded there.
damn did I search for the problem.
