I recently bought a numbers matching 1973 Z-28 that has had a few mods over the years- someone has replaced the original dip stick with a chrome dress up one along with other chrome additions- When I changed the oil and replaced with 5 quarts of new oil the oil only registers on the dip stick at the very tip- (approx 2 qts shy) My first thought was the chrome dip stick was not correct for engine- I went to my local Chevy dealer and ordered the correct replacement dip stick which came in looking as the same length as the aftermarket chrome- the other possibilty is that maybe the oil pan has been replaced with a 7 qt pan- this pan looks stock- does anyone know how to tell any differences between a 5 qt and a 7 qt by demensions-
this one does not drop below the cross member or comeout past the block it just looks like the original pan.
Any help is appreciated
