The 2007 release of the movie Transformers brought to life the popular 1980s cartoon about two rival enemy gangs (the Autobots and Decepticons) of alien robots who come the Earth to do battle and can change into almost any object from 18 wheels to birds. While the movie followed a slightly different story path than the cartoon or comic books, the high definition special effects were amazing, and the movie received great reviews from audiences. In light of the success of the first movie there has been a sequel announced for release in the summer of 2009.
The cast of computer generated robots, many of which transform into automobiles, will remain mostly the same but recently an Autoblog reader sent in a photograph of a what looked to be a new Chevy Volt on the Transformers: The Fallen movie set. This highly anticipated electric plug-in model has not been released in its production form, so this could either be a General Motors rep breezing down to the set to check out how the Camaro and Corvette (among other GM products in the movie) are doing with their scenes, but could this Volt make a surprise appearance in the new movie?
The original idea of Transformers was that the two groups were traveling around the universe in search of a power source for their world (Cybertron), so it would only make sense that an alien robot who will go to the lengths of traveling around the universe in search of energy would be eco-friendly enough to take the form of a plug-in hybrid.
There has been no mention of the Volt showing up in the movie, so perhaps it WAS just a car parked on the set, but if not sooner, we will all find out in June of 2009 if the Volt will make its big screen debut, and maybe turn into a super powerful, giant robot.
