Hi all. I am in the process of converting a 1972 Triumph TR-6 over to a GM 4.3 with the associated automatic transmission. I have located and purchased a wrecked 1992 Astro van with the correct engine and transmisson. By buying a wreck, I will have all the associtated electronics and wiring harnesses required for the conversion, although I may purchase a new wiring harness made for this conversion. My question is, what upgrades to the engine will give me the best bang for the buck, and still give me good streetablity and gas economy. The economy was one of the deciding factors on the 4.3 instead of a 350. Of course the weight issue was the other big factor. In stock form it will be about a 75 hp gain, but I would like to see around 100 hp gain. Thanks in advance.

Hi 1Gary. Thanks for the info on the V-8 swap, but that is not the swap that I am interested in. I looked at that option early on, and decided against it. I hate to say it, but if I were going with a V-8 swap, I would opt for the 302 Ford conversion. It offers more horsepower, less weight, and less width thus less cutting on the inner fenders. I am really more interested at this point, on how to get the most out of the 4.3 for least amount of money invested, and still be able to keep it reliable, effecient, but with a little extra kick. I am not building a track machine, but I want a fun everyday driver. I have built a few 327 and 350's in the past, but that has been about 20 years ago, when things were a lot different, and I have to say that I haven't kept up very well with all the changes. I am starting to get a crash course in all the new "stuff" that I need to be aware of. Thanks again for the input.
