Default Sealed Transmission

What do y'all think about the "lifetime" transmission of these cars?No tranny dipstick. Suppose to not need to change tranny oil.

I think it's a POS designed by a bean counter who was counting dipsticks. When mine finally crashes I'm opting for a 4T65E (if it'll fit). "Lifetime" ranks right up there with "new and improved", "fully automatic" and "no maintenance required" in my book.

There is absoultly no such thing as a "lifetime fluid". Just because ther is no dipstick does not mean there are not ways of checking or changing fluids. Any professional auto tech can service that trans. Car manufacture do not want your car to last for ever or even close. What do they consider life time? ANY car can last over 300,000 miles with proper preventative maintenance (changing all fluids between every 24,000-30,000 miles) and servicing all fuel delivery and emissions componets (fuel injectors, filter and EGR system)

I like the set up, have my second car with no dip stick, one less thing to fool with. Actually most owners don't know how to properly check transmission fluid, they just mess it up.

That's prolly because most people that check it are more than likely so big of morons they either check it with the engine off or if they do check it right & it's low they just pour in a whole bottle instead of just what they need, therefore doing the same damage as if it had too little fluid in it to begin with.

It's just one less thing for idiots to screw up.. No idiots on here as I am sure we all know how to properly maintain the cars.

You are absolutely right, there is no such thing. All the manufacturer's are going to it though. Have the trans serviced at least once a year is better than no service at all. Main reason is so you will bring it back to dealer.

What transguy says is true and those dealer prices will take your breath (and wallet) away.
