Default 1993 passenger from Doylestown PA

1993 passenger. Lasted for me 9 years (15yrs total); 156,000 miles. Went up and down the east coast a few times hauling motorcycle inside and with trailer.
Transmission was slipping, and the motor over-revved. Blew it up.

And there it is getting towed away.

Default The ADV Astro

Here's some base shots of my Astro. It's a 98 LS Rear Wheel Drive with the limited slip Diff. I've installed a ShadyBoy Awning originally designed for the VW Campers. Otherwise it's pretty much stock, other than a new radio.. but things are about to change.

This is my ADVenture Astro and is being built as a support vehicle for my ADVrider Motorcycle adventures. Sometimes the roads get real bad and the hitch tends to drag. The solution is a small lift and some bigger tires.

I'm installing a 2" lift from www.Overlandvans.com to run LT235/75/15 BFG All Terrain tires. Also on the worklist is a set of airLift springs, which are airbag assist springs that mount between the leaf spring and the body, with an onboard compressor to adjust the ride height. Also adding a Safari roof rack of some sort and I'll be building a chuckbox that fits in the back.

I'll start a new Post when I get going on the lift.

Default ADV Astro's 2" lift is done

Put an OverlandVans.com 2" lift on, LT 235/75/15 BFG All-Terrains, Rancho RS5000 Shocks.

Front is a full 2" higher, rear got 1 5/8". I made a post detailing the lift. It's not too bad a job. Took about 6hrs.

Depends on how high you go and what you do to get there.Add-a-leaf to rear springs give you firmness but you have to have steel rear springs and not the fiberglass ones.(later than 1994).Overlands sells rear springs that have been reports to improve the ride and still lift the vans.Overland sells also lift front springs which require a ball joint relocation for RWD's.You can go to 2"(I think) before you need to buy the steering link extension.I have seen guys use schedule 40 tubing welded to the sub frame as spacers using the stock body mounts up to 5 1/2" of lift and have a really good ride because the stock springs are being used. What is common is the 3-4" lift with a combination of springs and blocks and spacers from Overlands.

Like I said it all depends on what method you use and how high you want to go.Please get back to us with your plans and surely pictures are appreciated.

Thanks,

Gary

The ride is the same, just a better view. The springs did not change. I have the Rancho Shocks on now, certainly an improvement over the worn out Monroe Selectrac units.
