Default 75 Chevy C10

So need to replace my turn signal indicator sometime this winter, and hoping to get some advice, or guidance to do so or a quick fix..

When I go to turn it on there is a sweet spot that it will turn my blinkers on.. right turns i have to hold it there and left turns it clicks and holds if you know what i mean.. Anyways thinking i will replace it over the winter and hoping to get some advice now so I'm not leaving it to the last minute..

Guessing I need to remove the steering wheel and then take off the column collar with the ignition and signal indicator out.. after that.. well I am going to play it by ear unless i get some advice, Thanks
