Just purchased a 2010 Camaro 2SS/6M and have been hearing that I should change the oil before reaching 100 miles due to break in period of motor. I have also heard that I should fill it with a non-synthetic oil till it reaches 1500 miles then go back to Mobil 1 or another synthetic that meets GM specs. Manual does not mention anything about non-synthetic and states that if problems arise due to type of oil the warranty may be voided. Can someone give me the rundown on using non-synthetic on a synthetic required motor. By the way the engine in the 2SS is the LS3.

Recommendation to change the oil at 100 was discussed on the Camaro5.com forum. Numerous recommendations due to break in period and possibility of metal shavings. Thanks for the input I guess I'll go with Mobil 1 and change the oil tomorrow. Any recommendations on type of oil filter. I have heard that the AC Delco filter is not the best choice.

Anyway, I run synthetic in everything I own. The Z28 especially needs it because it tends to get a little gas in the oil due to rich running.
I have heard that its not a good idea to run synthetics in a brand new motor due to the fact that it extends the break in time since things dont wear as much, or so ive heard.
I have an 07 3500HD with the 6.6 Duramax and 5-speed automatic Allison and after 3000 miles i went and put full synthetic's in the Engine and Tranny, i figured 3000 miles is a good break in and not enough to hurt anything if synthetics are the best route.
Car shipped from GM with Mobil 1 in it and owners manual specifically call for synthetic oil only. Already purchased filter and oil (Mobil 1) to replace so I guess I'll go with what GM specifies. Thanks for the input.
The supposed logic behind the first oil change at 500 miles during engine break-in is to remove any particles,dirt, and shavings left in the engine during assembly at the factory.
Maybe stuff moves to the oil pan five times faster with synthetic oil?
As to filters, I'm going K&N next time. That Amsoil filter left a trail around half the neighborhood.
