I'm going to hook up my '97 Chevy Silverado Ext Cab with some good music.
I'm working on putting together all of my pieces (amp, sub, speakers, deck)
& wanted to install everything myself.
It'd be a nice little project & would save me some money.
My plan is to buy a 10" Sub (maybe a 12"), amp to run it & some decent speakers.
I already know how to install the speakers, & can find a box for the sub.
If you have any tips/advice/pictures for installation please let me know!!
Any tips, ESPECIALLY ones for installing the deck.
Also, any pics of your set up would be great. I don't think I'll be able to
squeeze my amp behind my seats like some other trucks, but it'd be nice
to see ideas of where to put it !
Thanks in advance !

Tip? The only one I know of is don't get ripped off by letting a shop do it for you!!!!
Stereo installs are exceptionally easy for older style trucks(before 07.)
The dash is snap on, the stock unit unbolts and disconnects real easy, put the aftermarket housing in place, get the harness for the new stereo, snap it into place, hook it up to the back of your stereo, plug in the antenna, set the stereo into place and bolt it back up and your set!
Subs are easy as well, the only hard part about this is routing all the wires through the vehicle(from battery to amp, stereo to amp ect). Run them all down the side of the interior. There are panels that simply snap off when you open the door. Just remember not to run the antenna wire down the same side as the power cable as the power cable can interfere.
You don't have to run the amp from behind the seat, you can put the amp under the rear seats.
I'd suggest doing it all at once(subs and head unit), saving you time later of having to take the head unit out to route the wires and plug them into the back of your stereo.
I didn't think about this, but when I install my stereo on my 07 classic I'll take pictures and post up a how to...
No you don't need to run the cables under the carpet and your cables with be completely hidden. I'll take pictures of the panels I'm talking about just so you can see what I'm talking about.
You don't need a diagram It's really easy. You'll be fine.
Kenwood isn't too bad, it depends on the quality you're looking for. If your looking to save a little money and still have decent sound than yes I'd go with Kenwood. If you want GREAT sound and GREAT sound control you're going to have to fork out a little more dough for a Pioneer or Alpine.
There aren't the exact panels that you have on your truck but there very very similar in the way the are attached and surface area underneath...
The panel right in the middle of the picture(don't know what it's called)
Snaps right off very easily
You can do the same with the rear ones and the panel to the left as well. Just pop them out. It will make it easier routing the power cable through your firewall to your amp and wires from the stereo to the amp. They will be completely hidden and as long as you don't have all the cables running down the same side those panels will fit right back into place no problem.
I had a 98 Tahoe awhile back that I installed a system on. Like I've said if you have any questions ask.
This is what we're doing, what do you think about this Amp - Sub Combo?
The link below is selling a Kenwood amp + 2 10" sub combo, but we'll probably
only run 1 10" sub for now (seeing that there isn't much space under my seat).
and we bought some Pioneer TS-A1673R 3 way speakers from Best Buy.
Thank you DeeZ, you're very helpful. & I appreciate it.
I was looking at Crutchfield.com for some more tips too, I think I can
get this set up nicely & since routing the cables doesn't look as horrible as
I thought it would be, I think when we get all of the products it'll be a nice
project !!

You're going to want to run the two 10's together, trust me. One won't be enough.
Everything looks good though! Your head unit to amp to speaker coombo should all run great together! Remember, when your connecting your subs bridge them. That's a bridgeable amp, do it!!!
Soon you'll have some serious sounds in your truck. For beginners, it shouldn't take more than three hours or so to install everything!!
Should I run two? I want to but I'm having space issues.
Under the right passenger seat in the back I have a storage
unit for a jack & lug wrench that's built into the seat/truck.
I'll load up a picture
