The brakes and power steering recently completely quit working on our 2006 GMC Sierra 2500HD Duramax. This truck has 75,000 miles and has always had scheduled maintenance performed by the DEALER and has no add-on's or upgrades with the exception of slightly bigger tires that GM said themselves would not effect anything adversely. I am not paying the $1000 bill for this repair when it could have killed everyone on board the truck and everyone nearby... Luckily the Power steering pump went out while it was sitting in the garage and we were able to stop the truck with the E-brake before it took out the I pillar of the garage. We then had to pay to get it towed and pay for a rental car while it's in the shop. I am not exactly thrilled about the prospect of replacing a power steering pump at 75,000 miles in the first place, let alone when it is wired through the hydroboost which then effects the brakes and makes the truck NOT STOP!
If at all possible, We are not going to pay for this repair and I need information and other instances of this problem so that I can call GM tonight and hopefully avoid a lawsuit. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!
Kevin

I can't help ya... But you wouldn't happen to know if that same thing could happen to the gassers do you, mainly the one in my sig? Or is it just the D-maxes?
I remember someone else on here had a very similar problem, but you're going to have to look for it. I'll try to find it, but I don't remember what the title was.
Edit: The other post was you, haha. Well good luck on finding other people with this problem. So what went wrong with the pump?

it's not necessarily a huge, common issue, but it is an issue. the brakes on d-maxxes do run off the steering pump, so if steering pump goes out, so do your brakes. now gas motors use a vacuum assist for brakes. but even if motor dies, you can still use brakes, just gotta push alot harder.

I'm not exactly positive what the problem was with the Power steering pump, but when they popped off the serpentine, the spindle came right out of the pump. I find it odd that when the truck is parked at 5 oclock the night before, everything works fine, but at 9 the next morning, absolutely nothing. It would make more sense to me that the pump would go out while the motor is running.
Anyways, got the truck back today and we are going to pursue the issue. The steering is much lighter and the brakes are much less spongy. Any more input is appreciated!
