Hey everyone, I just purchased a 1996 Z71 K1500.

I was looking it over in the driveway, checking fluids and whatnot, when I noticed the there was a hose that lead to nothing on the coolant reservoir, and it was bone dry. I haven't checked the radiator yet, I was waiting for the engine to cool down, and I couldn't get it off when it did cool down, but I didn't notice any overhearing on either of the two test drives or the drive home. There is a hose the ones from the bottom of the reservoir to the radiator.

Any ideas?

non pressurized coolant reservoirs have one line from the rad to the bottom of the reservoir for coolant to pass back and forth from the rad to the reservoir. the 2nd hose is to direct coolant to the ground, away from electrical components, should the system overheat. when it overheats, the coolant is forced into the reservoir and if it gets hot enough, will overflow the reservoir capacity.

Thank you for your reply. I filled the recovery tank with coolant before taking a thirty minute drive, plus a 40 minute drive back, and the tank is empty, but not overheating. I'm guessing there's probably a crack in the tank or something

sounds like it.


when the system cools, remove the rad cap and make sure the rad if full. checking the reservoir is ok, but if the system cannot draw the fluid back in when it cools, it may be low.
