Default Door Handle Meat Slicers :(

Well, after 7 years it looks like the meat slicer door handles have struck. Drove the Tahoe this weekend and noticed

What parts are you guys ordering and anyone have a how-to video?

I don't want my wife's hand sliced on the plastic door handle...

Thanks

HOW TO:

Looks like I'm not the only one:

Door handles on Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Yukon can slice, feds say
Tahoe and Yukon Door Handles That Slice And Dice (Fingers) | GM Authority

Anyone have any luck forcing GM to replace them for you? I'd rather just them deal with it, but the wife doesn't have time to fight that fight. and for $20 in parts, it's going to be 100x faster to fix it myself than fighting w/GM.

if its the inside handle, the cheap fix is to cut off the pealing chrome trim; down to the handle with a razor blade.

at least the handle is now sold separate from the door trim panel

I had some 'free' time. I'm on w/GM now. The airbag recall covers the make/model/year, but not the 'State' of humidity?! WTF?

I'm seeing if they will do anything about the door handles... figure a call can't hurt.

I didn't think gm used tekata airbags, other than the Toyota made pontiac vibe.

at dodge, we are doing the inflator replacement everyday.

No way to differentiate state of humidity effect on an inflator...are they not going to replace them all?

GM says its Takata air bag inflators are safe; government disagrees - LA Times

The documents cover passenger air bags mainly in older models in states with high temperatures or humidity.

I call BS on that. My garage has high heat and high humidity. I can't wait to sell this damn thing!

GM saying their car is safe is like the fox guarding the hen house... did they not realize they lost all credibility after the ignition switch fiasco?

The Tahoe is my wife's daily driver. I'm concerned for her safety.
She will trade in the Mazda on a Model 3, and the Tahoe will be kept for towing duty, but that won't be until 2018... Not too far off, but not next week either.

GM called me back. They require a dealer to 'diagnose' the issue, because I'm obviously unable to know when a poorly made object is able to slice human skin.
So, since I'm sure the stealership will charge for this, I'm ordering the parts and will replace the door handle when I get the parts.

Anyone want to buy a Tahoe? It won't tow my next boat anyway, so maybe I can sell it then to offset that...

the same inflator manufacturer using the same propellant; it should have the same deterioration rate in a gm vehicle as any other brand.

dodge is going up to model year 2010. We have a parts wall lined to the ceiling with replacement inflators. All the removed inflators are being sent back to tekata....maybe for testing.

Why not use sodium azide instead of ammonium nitrate.

Some folks are pulling the air bag fuse to disable the system.

Not sure on the cost to the manufacturer...takata will be taking all of the hit for the parts cost to my knowledge.

I think Takata will go under for this...
This is what happens when you push for cheaper, cheaper, and cheaper. At some point it's junk... and now deadly.

So; reading the reviews of this thing doesn't fill me with good feelings:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...A151183L5JV8GH

looks like the cheap aftermarket one has the SAME issue I'm trying to fix.

Are the 'newer' GM ones better? If I go to the stealership can I touch one before buying it?
