Default Transmission doesn't engage

Replacing motor mount on 2007 chevy hhr 2.2l ls while on ramps, with engine supported,It was hard cause i coudn't break the cross bolt so I took the bracket off first then the mount.re-installed braket, added new mount, had to lift the engine slightly to install the bolts.next morning still on ramp decided to take road test.couldn't get the transmission to engage.shift just moves freely. No engine light or transmission fluid on ground. Now what?

With help, have someone move shifter with you watching the transmission end, could be a cable issue.

Thanks that did it,somehow the linkage got seperated, like the connecter is gone? Isn't the cable rod that connects to the transaxle lever supposed to snap on? Do I need a new shift cable?

I think that thing is plastic.I'd look for that cable online, the image will show you what it is supposed to look like.
