04 Silverado - Check engine light - no computer read?
Hello Everyone,
Looking for some advice on this one since its got me stumped.
So every couple of weeks my check engine light turns on in my '04 Silverado 2500HD-4WD. Its completely random. Nothing similar in conditions. But the weird thing is, when I connect a code reader to it there is NOTHING...I mean absolutely nothing. No code at all...anyone have any advice. I'm an official newbie so please bear with me.
Appreciate any help you can offer.
Thanks
K.

Thanks for the reply. Actually not sure what kind of reader it was. I simply went in to an Advance Auto Center. We plugged it in, and there was a blank screen. The person helping me out said the reader should automatically turn on when plugged in. We actually tried two separate readers with the same result.
Not sure if its an electrical problem? If so, how in the world can I find it...
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

So, the guy couldn't get his reader to connect, then, which is not the same as the absence of codes. Check the OBD data link connector for battery voltage on pin 16 (rightmost pin, bottom row as you view the connector under the dash) and ground on pin 5 (5th pin from the left, top row). If battery voltage absent, check the 15A CIG LTR fuse in the underhood fuse block.

OK. Thanks EinSt. Definitely appreciate your help. I will take a look under the hood to see if the fuse is burnt.
BTW. It looks like I'll be a regular visitor to this site, since I'm hoping to have my silverado for a very long time.
Thanks again.
