Will a 2010 key fob work on a 2005?
I stumbled upon a 2010 Chevy Silverado key fob (door lock/unlock/panic) and I own a 2005 Silverado, are these compatable?
I asked the Chevy parts guy when I bought a new fob if I could get the newer looking one he said no they didn't work. But since I already have a newer one for a 2010 I thought Id ask here.....

GM has so many Key Fobs that look the same but will not function. Your Fob must match the vehicle it is to be used on. The FCC# and GM/UTA# on the back of the Fob must be the same as original Fob that came with truck. A lot of generic Fobs do not have any # on the back so it hard to tell if it will work. If they are the same then search Fob reprogramming on the net and follow instruction for your truck. Hope this helps.

BayAreaChevyGuy, I would like to forward this question on to our Technical Assistance team just in case you haven't found out the answer on your own just yet. All I need to do this is for you to direct message me your name and VIN. I hope this helps.
