Default 09 oil change

I understand chevy uses % for oil life but how many miles is it? Has anyone ever checked it?


Im thinking im going to start running Royal Purple in my truck is there a way to change that % to go with the oil with the use of a scan tool?

nope.

its an algorithm based on inputs to the ecm. Does not look at how clean/dirty the oil is. The algorithm was probably set up using chemical analysis of the oil during the testing phase.

I've seen them go to 13 000km but I wouldn't let it go that long for my car.

so basically I need to go back to the old school sticker on the windshield

i'd use both the olm system and sticker.

break this down for me a bit more. If you have seen them go to 13000km then how could they not be changed?

if the oil life is not at zero%; people don't change there oil. you could be 13000kilometers before it hits zero%

thats @ 8000 miles which would be fine for a synthetic. Why would they change there oil before it hit 0. the number is there for a reason.

I took your advice on the HID also. Im looking at geting a conversion. I did not know that the projectors existed. thankful you pointed me to that site, they are very helpful also.

13000 km is to far imo. the oil is black at 8000km. a lot of dirt in suspended in the oil at that mileage. stretched timing chains in the 3.6L engine may be due to the oil life strategy.
