Default 1989 Chevy K1500 Detent Cable Shortage

As you can see from the top I bought this truck after the original owner after he dropped a V8 350 in it. I was having some transmissions issues and dropped it off to a buddy who owns a shop. My problem is the Detent cable is coming up short and came off the bracket. After ordering a new one it was to small also. They ordered straight from chevy but found out the engine is different and they had to order a universal one. This is supposed to be 3/4 in longer than the other one. Has anyone had this issue?

need to check for the correct mounting bracket on the intake, sounds like it might have a turbo 350 bracket on it

I will check tomorrow. It is in the shop. I hope they figure it out. Thanks.
