Default 1990 Chevy Silverado 1500 Fuel Sending Unit

There seems to be a problem with my fuel sending unit...or more so my fuel gauge reading.

I don't think it is a bad fuel sending unit, it is probably something with the wiring in the dash. The guy that had the truck "installed" his own alarm system, then when my dad bought the truck said it was struck by lightning.

The truck is in pretty much perfect running condition, and this is the last thing I need to fix internally before I switch to doing more cosmetic upgrades.

I just want a general consensus about what the problem could be since the wiring is messed up. I've heard that there is a fuel sending unit switch, I could check that or just replace the whole damn thing myself.

Thanks in advance,
Joseph.
