1995 C1500 Tailgate Logo Replacement

I have a truck like the one shown below. What is involved with removing the metal logo piece so that I could polish and repaint the lettering on it?

I pulled mine off and it was applied with a sticky tape/substance. Left it off and polished tailgate.
