Ok, I thought I would be embarrassed to ask this, but when GM told me to search autozone.com and howstuffworks.com for the answer, I felt better.

Basically I am a new owner of a 2008 Silverado Ext-Cab WT. Twice now I found myself in the truck with the rear drivers side wheel on the pavement and passenger side on the grass. When I give it a little gas, the passenger side rear tire will simply spin and the left does nothing. Not giving it so much gas will allow me to creep out of the situation, but why doesn't the wheel with the traction turn? I have done a ton of searching and know my tuck has the M30 code for "Transmission, 4-Speed Automatic: Automatic four-speed transmission with lock-up, electronic control and shift lever on column 4L60". I was thinking that it would have a limited-slip feature, am I wrong? I of course know it is not 4 wheel drive, but shouldn't it be 2?

the tire with the least traction will spin, jsut how it's always worked. The m30 code has nothing to do with the rearend. I have a WT 2500HD, but I have limited slip rearend, the tire that isn't spinning must turn, for me, bout a 1/4 turn to start spinning with the other tire.
Technically, it's 2wd.

You're right. I mistook the transmission for the rear-end which is the GU5 code "AXLE,REAR,3.23 RATIO 3.23R".

I don't know, just seems odd to me that a full size truck would not have a limited-slip rear end by default. Is this something that can be modified at the dealership or would I be looking at a completely different rear-end.

I thought I asked every question possible when purchasing, but obviously missed this one.

wouldnt your truck have the g80 in it? my dads has it..

I don't have a G80.

i belive if you have a limited slip rear end in any new GM truck its a eaton g80..they call it a gernade 80.. because they blow out easy..

according to this if you dont have the g80 code you dont have it.. BUT i thoguht ALL the new truck even the sonoma and whatever else is small has one.. it might just be in the 4wd.. and not 2wd
