Default 2001 HD2500 Brake Pad Replacement

Is it possible to replace the brake pads (and shoes - don't know if the truck has discs on the rear) in my driveway or are special tools, etc. required? Also, do the rotors have to be turned everytime?

I will say yes it is not to difficult. I have a 02 ,2500 HD and have done it without any problems. My truck has discs on the rear. You will need some good sturdy jack stands and a strong arm with 1/2 inch breaker bar with a good socket. The bolts holding the calipers on (2 on each caliper) have locktite on them and theyer a B#### to get loose. Be sure to use it after installing them. You probably won't have to turn the rotors if the pads metal parts have not been dragging, but you should have them checked with a micrometer to be sure. Are you planning to do both front and rear? They are similar unless you have drums on the rear. Hope this helps.

Thanks, Mel.

Discs on the rear - I'm going to give it a go. Thanks for your help.

I'd go with having the rotors ground. It extends the life of the brakes.
