Default 2002 1500HD fuel mileage

First - Im a newbe here and to the 1500hd; I bought it to pull my 7000# travel trailer about 4 - 6 times a month. I also bought it before i did any research on them. I had read all different forums concerning the poor fuel milege the get but i'm not ready to quit yet.One thing i've thought of, and haven't seen mentioned anywhere is, swapping the computer fro one from a Cadilac Escalade with the 6.0.. From what I understand the 1500hd is over 8500 gvw which is not subject to the CAFE fuel ratings whereas the escalade would fall into the cafe ratings for under 8500 gvw which is mandated for better fuel mileage.
Does anyone have any input or thoughts on this?

I would not try this route. I think you'd be better off getting an aftermarket economy tuner to help with fuel mileage and or change gearing. And I never recommend tuners but I can see so many issues with trying to swap in an escalade PCM in to your truck.

Can anyone explain the 'issues' that might arise from this swap?

the issues are just that...who knows what issues you'll run into.

You have the right engine...6L. When you need to pull something it can do it.

the cost of parts, installation and programming a used pcm will be 3/4 the cost of a programmer. the programmer will have no issues and you can remove it and sell it when your done with it.
