Default 31" Tires on a 1996 Chevy k1500

Does anyone know the largest tire size a 1996 Chevy Silverado K1500 can accommodate before gearing/suspension needs to be updated?

I had 285/75-16's (33"ish) on a 99 4x4 Tahoe a while back. There was some rubbing on the upper side of the wheel opening when I'd hit bumps but nothing too bad. I ran with that size for 3 years with no modification.
