Are air intakes really worth getting? Or should i just get the Air filter replacement?

I saw that K&N has a replacement filter and so does Airaid, Which one is better out of those two?

I drive a 2012 silverado crew cab/4.8l. by the way

total waste imo. In addition, alot of cai systems will set numerous drivability dtc on the newer trucks. You will not notice any power increase; all they do is look nice. They are not functional. Some cai don't even isolate the filter from underhood hot air. Oiled filters crude up the maf sensor...only use these on speed density fuel metering systems. Stick with a oem air filter only...not even conventional aftermarket filters made to fit the oem air filter box.

CAI can be considered as a good investment, but there are other factors that you need to consider/upgrade in order for you to see big improvement on your ride.

agreed, almost all of them ive seen/installed pull air from warmer locations than stock does theres nothing "cold air" about them. For day to day driving there wouldn't be a noticeable difference other than maybe a little more noise under the hood. Don't remember the exact formula but under perfect conditions it takes a 7 degree drop to gain 1hp, so even the few that may pull colder air you might get 2 or 3hp for like $300...not worth it

i think ill just stick to oem then.. maybe just get a replacement filter for it.. cuz it is dirty!! lol

Write the date that you installed the filter on the side of the pleating of the filter, that way when you check it and even if it looks clean if its more then a year old you'll know to replace it... my 2¢

On a side note, some CAI systems remove the stock air baffle(s) so the air coming into the engine can make a throat-er sound much like changing the exhaust...
