Anyone have any thoughts or ideas on replacing the air filter on a new 2009 Silverado?

I was thinking just using a K&N replacement in the box filter, so I don't void the warranty or anything of the sort.

Cold air intake doesn't seem like it is needed and may cause more issues down the line.

I also have the bigger box intake on the Z71 package.

If your still under warranty, The K&N filter would be the best option in my opinion. It will breathe better and you dont have to buy new standard filters every few months. Just oil it properly when you clean it and your good to go. I put my neat looking & sounding intake tube & filter on after the warranty was up. CAI wont hurt anything, just sounds & looks different. Your ECM is in charge of the power it has no matter what you put on it.

Sounds good. Anyone know anything about dry filters that do not require cleaning? I am looking for longevity of the truck and better fuel mileage more so than increased performance.

I hear good things about the dry ones too, again your ECM is in charge if your fuel mileage, unless you have a very clogged filter, MPG will only go down not up from the stock computer settings.

so in other words don't mess with your ECM?

So much has changed on these trucks compared to my old 2001. I am trying to get caught back up on all the technical aspects of the truck and what to do and what not to do... damn electronics.

I would be wise not to while your under warranty, they have chips that can increase mileage but you loose power, but the price for them does not impress me.

Any idea what the difference is between an Air filter and the high capacity air cleaner that comes with the Z71 package?

Is that what you have?

My guess is the ECM is pre-programmed with more power from the factory to account for it.

Yes that is what I have from the inventory sticker. Now I am trying to think if I want K&N or one of the dry air filters like AEM.

for the Tahoe the regular and HC are interchangeable, I would guess the only difference is the length of the pleating, increasing the amount of surface area for the engine to breath through...
