Auto 4wd causing pump flange to wear t- case housing?

Auto 4wd causing pump flange to wear t- case housing?
I was told by a good mechanic that if you just use regular 4hi and stay away from auto4wd your pump flange wont wear a hole in the case housing? I have a couple pin holes in mine and he said jb weld it real good and use just 4hi and I should be fine. He said the auto4wd kicking in and out is really hard on the t-case! I have an 03 silverado
