I bought my truck a couple of weeks ago and it didnt run when i bought it, turned out to only be bad gas and one of my friends told me to use the 93 fuel (forgot the reason he told me). So Ive been using 93 since i got it running with no problem, drove to my home town about 2 hours from me yesterday and met up with some old friends and was filling up with 93 again and one of them told me to use 87 so after driving around all day and coming back home I put $20 in my tank this morning of 87 and ended up breaking down half a mile from the gas station... So then i called my cousin and asked what grade fuel he used in his old 98 and he said he used to just fill up with 87. Could it maybe be the fuel pump? The truck cranks but wont start going to get octane booster tomorrow and if it doesnt help im going to drop the tank and throw in my spare fuel pump

Octane should not cause your problem, don't waste your money on the octane boost stuff.

Most likely a fuel pump problem, they are very common on those trucks, just about everyone I know that owns or used to own one has had it replaced.

Replaced the fuel pump and its working but the truck wont start. My buddy said it jumped time, hoping thats not the case. I was going to replace the spark plugs and distributor cap and see if that helps at all before i go tearing the front end apart /:

Well I replaced the fuel pump last week, heard it running but the truck still wouldnt start... Asked a few people they said it was the timing chain. A couple more said it was the distributor cap, rotor button, spark plugs and crank sensor.. So i went ahead and replaced the cap button plugs and sensor and it still wont start but Isnt there a sweet spot for the distributor cap?Also, i dont hear the pump anymore... FML right? Called around to get pricing on the timing chain anywhere from $300-500 to do it.

at least do a compression check before tearing it down.


you really don't know what your missing without testing something. I've been in the trade for 10+ years and I don't guess at stuff without confirming it by testing first.
