Default Bottom end tick?

Im looking at buying a 01 6.0 silverado with 200k on the motor. I test drove it today and when I went to crawl under it while it was running I could hear a nonrythmic ticking noise. I could not hear it on the passenger side but only the drivers and while under it. When i revved it the motor did not make any other noises. and I could not hear it worsen. Is this a common noise to the 6.0's?

Last time I had a problem with a nonrythmic ticking sound near the driver side it turned out to be a problem with my EGR valve. Granted that was on a completely different engine (3800II Series V6) but it is well worth a try just to look at it to make sure its no that. Also, I had a ticking sound in the rear right side of my Tahoe and it turned out to be a dust shield that had rusted and was hitting the moving parts of the tire. But since you said it was running and nonrythmic it sounds like it could just be a loose end and you might just need to look around with a strong/bright light. Hope this helped.

I suggest you take the vehicle in for a quick inspection by a certified technician before purchase. Better safe than sorry.

Keep us posted.
