Hi, I'm Rodolfo. I'm new in this message board and I'm a big fan of the chevy cars :-D. I have a 1988 Silverado and I'm worried about the oil pressure. The gauge shows the oil pressure in more than 200 psi when I start the engine, but when the engine is warm, the pressure drops to 100 psi in idle, and when I press the gas, it increases to more than 200 psi again. I know that when the engine is warm the oil gets thin, but I just think that my case in particular it's a little strange. I think that the pressure drops too much.

I hope that somebody here can help me :-P and sorry for my english, it's not my main language. :-D

yeah usually in those trucks its at 40 psi when driving and 20 at idle mine has a high pressure so its at 60 when driving and 40 at idle. might be your oil pump check for leaks

here is what i would do... i have this same problem and i dont have ANY of my oil pressure stuff hooked up... but i do know that the sending unit down by the oil filter is the one that works your gauge so replace the oil sending unit by the oil filter and it "should " work...

The oil pressure is always higher when you first start the vehicle.(1.5 to 2x higher)

Some variations in readings are generally indicative of a decent quality oil gauge. The pressure should settle to @40PSI(Standard) after the engine has warmed up, maybe even a little less. 5-10 PSI with new oil, for instance would be bad.

I used to wait till I saw a 10PSI drop in pressure, then I knew it was time to change my oil.
