Default 2000 Chevy Silvarado 2500 6.0L

Hey gang. New to forum but am looking at picking up a 2000 Silverado 2500 this week. Does anyone have any experience with the typical lifetime/mileage of these vehicles assuming routine maintenance is followed? I've heard of some people getting 300,000 + miles out of these v8 engines.

Are there any historical / common problems with the this truck?

bump.

Just took the thing for a test drive and while it has some rust on the rocker panels and the bed has seen better days the thing drives solid with smooth engagement and easy accel, didn't hear any knocking or clunking. The oil looked good and there are no check engine lights. I checked under the car and couldn't see any signs of leaking fluid or substantial rust on the suspension and transmission housing.

I think I'm going to pick it up, it does have 240,000 original miles on it though which is why I'm asking about the upper limit and common mechanical problems with this vehicle. The current owner has taken care of the engine fairly well and said it's never broken down.

Anyone with any experience with these trucks per O.P.

Sounds like a great truck and though I don't personally own one, I know a lot of people that own the 6.0 and no complaints from them. They are strong motors that will pull what ever you need and last a long time. I would not say it is uncommon that those motors keep strong past 300,000. Take care of it and it will last you a long time. Send us pics.

Well the 6.0's drinks the gas, 5.3's drinks the gas and the 4.8's drink the gas I HAVE HAD ALL OF THESE MOTORS IN TRUCKS BEFORE. I figured I would clarify that before people think I'm just saying that. My 6.0 gets about 11 Highway. 5.3 gets the same. And the 4.8 on a good day gets 15. The only probably I have had will all of these trucks, is the rust. My 2002 1500 200,000 has more rust on the rear fender than I would like to admit. The damn salt they put on the roads ruins trucks. Chevy's paint is also ***.
