Default control arm

I have a 2008 Silverado 1500, it has a 4" lift and I recently had some work done but they brought it to my attention that both my upper and lower ball joints need replaced, however the mechanic recommended I just replace the entire control arms because the holes where the bushing sits become oval?? has anyone ever heard of this or should I just get the bushings?

the ball joints for the oem uca cannot be replaced...you must replace the upper control arm and then get it aligned. are you saying you have aftermarket uca?
