I always buy one for my vehicles. Not only for looks but they keep the dash cooler and keep the plastic from cracking like they tend to do without the dash pad..

there is a company called dashmatz thats where we order ours from and they might not be the coolest thing around but stuff doesnt slide around nearly as much up there, and like you already said it prevents cracking on the dash. I think they are a good investment make sure to get one that is made for your truck and they are a breeze to put in too.
