Dome light doesn't work when doors open
I have a 2003 2500HD Crew cab. It is the base model (manual doors and windows). I can turn on the dome light with the switch to the left of the steering wheel, but it will not turn on or off when the doors open - I have to turn it on or off manually.
When Chevy calls it a base model, do they really leave off that feature (and put on tilt and cruise) or is there a malfunctioning switch?

I guess I don't know about that specific model, but every vehicle I have owned has had a switch. Have you tried both doors? I have definitely had to replace a few switches in my day, good thing is they're pretty cheap and easy to install. If your truck is like my '99 K1500, the switch is on either side of the dash, right by the hinges.

the samething happened to my 2009 wt. i didn't realize that the squareouter part of the trim around the light button is also a switch, just the top part. i had pushed it in with out knowing it and the dome light stopped coming on when the door opened. it took me a couple of days to realize it. i don't know how far back they used this kind of switch, hope this helps
