engine light on, blinks after 30 mph, missing
original owner 2003 LS, 4.8, 56000 miles.
Traveled (moved) across the US from Florida to California this year with no problems. After being here for a month or so (29 Palms) the engine light came on at start. I thought the truck was outta gas but it wasnt the case.
the truck feels like it is missing, fuel pressure & temp is normal.
the engine light is solid but blinks above 30-35. other than the rough idle and the missing while driving, things seem normal...ie, no noises, no overheating, no weird smells, no smoke, and so on.
i made it to page 50 of the silverado forum and found a few things it could be.
-MAF...heard you can clean those with MAF cleaner, or soaking it in Iso alcohol in a baggy for 20 minutes with a 45 minute dry time.
-o2 sensors...there are 4? holy *&^%.
-the crankshaft sensor thingy that needs shims?
anyone had this problem? would like an opinion before i head to the shop and pay out the nose.
i still drive it to and from work on occasion...only two miles.
some of the guys here on base say that this happens to vehicles coming from a humid environment (miami in my case) to a dry environment (29 palms). any truth to this one?
thanks in advance

Drive it to your local Auto Zone and have them read the codes. They can then give you recommendations for what it takes to fix it. They do the scan for free. Other parts stores may offer the same service. Without knowing the codes you're just wasting your time.

p first step is to get the codes out of the ECU and usually it will tell you whats wrong. make sure you look at the scantool yourself and see what it says, most people at autozone dont have a clue.

gotta figure out how to do this one. i live on base, not sure if i can get another pass to get back on once i visit the autozone. thanks for the input. anyone ever run into this problem before or something similar? if so, what was the problem?

Sounds like a coil pack to me but you really need to get it scanned to know for sure. The scan will tell you which coil is bad if thats the problem. Seems one of the mechanics on the base would have an OBD II scanner. Good luck!
