dont forget the specialty tool u will need to get the fuel lines off.

Hopefully, it was diagnosed properly and you rapid loss of pressure is in fact caused by a leaking fuel pump check valve.

While researching the problem with my truck, I came across several posts where folks were talking about the spider injector assembly leaking down and can cause similar symptoms.

I suppose you would block off the incoming fuel line immediately after the fuel pump has been energized (engine off) and see if your pressure is still dropping off quickly. If it holds pressure, the fuel pump check valve is likely the culprit. If it drops like a rock, you may have a leak elsewhere such as the spider assembly or in the fuel lines somewhere.

I'm not 100% completely sure on this method, so someone please correct me if I am wrong.

On the 2000 he will likely need the fuel line specialty tool. I purchased tool for my 97 only to find out that it was the screw-on type fittings.

I have this same problem on my 97 k1500 silverado that 97Chev1500 had but i havent tested the fuel presure

Don't keep putting it off like I did. I just kept giving it the couple extra cranks to get it started, but then it went out completely on me on the way out of town 4 weeks ago. Had to have it towed to the dealership and ended up being $800 for the fuel pump replacement, $100 for the tow, and $240 to rent a truck for the weekend.
