Default Help with Chevy

Hello Chevy Forum, I own a 1998 Chevrolet c1500 W/T 4.3 v6 with 197,000 miles. Friday it wouldn't crank and sounded like it was out of time. I tore it down Saturday and I was right it was 180 degrees out of time. I just slapped in a new timing chain and gears. But now I can't get the timing cover on. Do I really have to drop this oil pan to put this timing cover back on or can I get around it?
Thanks for any and all help!

Mike
