Default Help Me Price This 1998 Silverado! Please!!!

Hello all:

I am new to this site but not new to Chevy Trucks, or forums, lol.

Previously, I had a 1994 Silverado: Black/Silver, Extended cab, short bed, Z71, fully loaded, Auto w/ 350TBI. Little bro still drives it.

I am looking to replace that truck with a 1998 Silverado. I found one here: 1998 Chevrolet Chevy Silverado Z-71 Pick-up Truck K1500 Extended Cab

The truck's features:

-1998
-Silverado
-Extended Cab
-8 Foot Bed
-Z71
-60/40 split bench
-bed liner
-tow package
-Black interior/gray interior
-KBB $4200

The Good:

-Brand new 350 Vortec from Advanced Auto with 3 year warranty
-Transmission rebuilt a few years ago by a pro with Redline clutches and gears
-New radiator
-New AC entire setup
-New Water Pump
-New Power Steering Pump
-New Flowmaster Exhaust
-New K&N Intake
-Repairs total $5000 in past year for all this

The Bad:

-294k Miles: Mostly Highway. This truck was used to haul motorcycles all over the united states for the past 15 years, two previous owners were racers
-Cosmetic: Door handles are broken, tailgate handle is broken little stuff like that...junkyard parts
-Needs two new rear tires
-Throwing code P420 for Cat...may be a sensor going bad...before motor swap the truck got antifreeze in the gas and was spitting it out the tailpipes
-May need a new Cat as seen above
-May need an alignment/front end parts after new tires
-Windshield needs to be replaced
-Paint is fading slowly...dings and dents on exterior
-Some surface rust, not bad, no worse than any 1998 ive ever seen.

If I bought this truck, I would initially replace parts it needs with junkyard parts and then eventually do a frame-off restoration of the truck...kinda like rebuilding a classic Camaro SS or something.

Background: I've been looking for a low-mile, virgin, 1997-1998 Silverado/Sierra with extended cab/8 foot bed/350/auto for 5 years and this is the closest I have found.

Is it worth the effort to re-build this truck to keep it running until 500,000 miles, or would I be better off to spend $10,000+ to find a sub-100K model and start "fresh"???

THANK YOU!!!!

I work at a dealership and we have a 99 4x4 ext cab w/3rd door with 270k on the motor and we just replaced the tranny with one that has 100,000 on it with a 3 month warranty for $4800 out the door. and it doesnt need anything. so i'd say about $3200 at the highest on the one your looking at, if its a private seller.

Allan
This is my thoughts exactly

And UPDATE: Turns out the engine was re manufactured, not new, 350 Vortec with Roller Cam (model VCH4) from Advanced Auto Parts.

Is the truck worth the time in the $4-5000 range?

Or would I be better off to find a clean, totally rust-free truck, maybe with a blown engine/tranny, and build it the way I prefer?

This truck seems done right for 294k...

I never see these extended cab long bed Z71 1500s around here...

I have a 99 Silverado 3 door with 224K miles. Just got back from a FL trip and it ran/runs great. I paid $3100 for it last November. Auto, 4 wheel drive, 5.3 Liter V8. It got in the upper 15 mpg on the trip. I put new tires on it last fall. I had to replace the left taillight wiring harness, the tailgate handle and have the trailer wiring harness fixed due to one broken wire. I have a free Leer topper on it that I had to buy two new locking handles for.

The trip to FL was to pick up a 2008 Honda Silverwing from my sister near Pensacola. She's the one I got the topper from. It was roughly a 3000 mile round trip and the truck ran and handled well.
