Default How many miles are TOO many miles?

I'd like to purchase a GMC/Chevrolet pickup. In a perfect world, I'd have a red/silver two toned extended cab long bed 1500/2500. Unfortunately, my price is under 10k and I can't find DICK for under 10k, nevertheless the red long bed of my dreams. What I CAN find for under 10k all have a buttload of miles on them, starting at 120k and going up into the 200ks. My current work vehicle is an '09 Tahoe that just hit 100k miles. Suspension is squeaky and the A/C compressor's been replaced, but otherwise it hasn't given me any problems.

Obviously when purchasing a used vehicle knowing where it came from and examining it thoroughly is important, but it's not always possible if dealing with a stealership or a recent owner. The delivery truck suddenly becomes a "highway mile with synthetic only!" vehicle.

How good are the trannies in the late 90's, 2000's trucks? I am astounded that these trucks are that damned expensive.

Pay for what you get. I bought my 99 z71 with 179k and she got 216k on her right now and besides for a few problems that were mostly my fault, it has never let me down. For a 120k, shoot that thing is just getting broken in. The trannys in these things are pretty dang good, I have had a minor slip for the past 20,000 but she is still holding strong. I have towed bob cats, lawn trailer, and boats around pretty consistently and not to mention the few mud rides every now and again. All in all, if you take care of the truck, it will take care of you.

20k of slipping? Wow, I'm impressed!
